Project 365 - Week 4
It's that time of the week again. LOL! I don't know how I'm going to keep up with this one. Pure determination. I haven't been outside because of the weather, so my pictures are lacking. LOL! Makes you get creative with what you take pictures of. But the whole point of this for me is to just keep track of daily life as we live it. That way I can look back and go, I remember the day when I got my report card in the mail or the week Tarrah refused to clean her room. LOL! It's just little reminders of daily life.
On with the show! This week I had fun playing with my new kit, The World All Around, inspired by Where the Wild Things Are. Tarrah loves this book!

A Fresh Start | Studio Tangie's CT Challenge Series
I've been so needy lately with finding challenges to feel my inspiration. It's insane. I stumbled upon Studio Tangie's CT Blog and they've started weekly challenges. So here's yet another challenge I jumped on. This week's challenge has to do with a "Fresh Start" in your professional life. I wrote about my new kit. It was very hard for me to share my own drawings. I've always been afraid to share, thinking they aren't good enough. But it all worked out okay and I'm looking forward to sharing more of my personal artwork.

Art Journal | Color Geek
This page was inspired by my previous page, Playful Color. As I wrote the blog entry for it, I realized I had to journal that! So here is part 2, Color Geek. Supplies were all traditional again. Card stock by Bazzill Basic, patterned paper by Making Memories, alpha's by Making Memories, rub-ons by K&Co. and Marah Johnson, ribbon by American Crafts, photo scanned from a calendar printed on an old dictionary page, craft paint, glaze, and black marking pen by UniBall.

Art Journal | Playful Color
I am beyond excited to share this with you. Two of this week's prompts were color and the word play. My creative mind went into overdrive as I contemplated what color could possibly define me. There isn't one. Color in itself defines me. I've made it my life's passion to work with color. Nothing pleases me more than two look upon two beautifully colored items. A room that has been decorated with pops of color is the best! I know, I'm a color geek.
I took it one step further, what color is playful to me? Why chartreuse of course. I absolutely adore this color. Various shades of green and blue are all over my house, but chartreuse? The name itself is just awesome! And for the really intuitive artist, you might notice I've actually got the definitions of play and chartreuse on my page. I printed my playful pin-up on an old dictionary page. Imagine my surprise and delight to find that the word play was at the top of the dictionary page! My short statement: "color defines who I am." was just the icing on the cake.
This page fell together beautifully. The entire creation is traditional in its creation. I used background paper by SEI, tissue paper found at Michaels, a book-mark, pin-up scanned from a calendar printed onto and old dictionary page, alpha stickers by Making Memories, craft paint, glaze and modge podge.

Journal entry: Being in pain all the time is difficult. Even if I get past the pain, there’s the exhaustion. It makes little tasks like doing the dishes a big deal. So imagine my surprise upon waking on Sunday to find my baby boy doing the dishes for me. I couldn’t believe it. It really is the little things that matter. Little acts of kindness. I am blessed to have such a sweet and thoughtful son.

Art Journal - Cover | Secret Compartments
So I thought long and hard about a title for my art journal. I really like what I cam up with. It's a journal of self-discovery, going through the most private parts of my heart and soul. I used a red polka dot 3 ring binder (found at Target) and it's eco-friendly.
As for the supplies here we go: tissue paper from Michaels, old pattern pieces, alphas by Making Memories, label maker, rub-ons by Basic Grey, post card by Anne Taintor, photos from Deviant Art, glaze, craft paint, and modge podge, sandpaper and distress ink by Tim Holtz.

Discover Love
For Me
Both of these pages were done with the same inspiration, a phone call and a letter from Tom. I didn't realize how worried I was about my future, how anxious I was about our relationship. These artistic journal exercises are really pulling out deep emotions that I didn't even realize were there. I was able to discover part of my burden and help alleviate it by talking it out with Tom.
As for the gorgeous supplies used they are as follows: background paper by Christina Renee from Urban Love, other paper, stamps, doll pieces, film strip, and heart are from Tangie Baxter's Ultimate Art Doll Collection, Cirque Joyeux, and Steamer Trunk, craft paint, glaze, a transparency overlay with Tom's letter scanned into the computer, digital brushes, styles and textures, and "love" alpha by Making Memories. Photos are from Quaddles at Deviant Art.

I Belive I Can
For the next page(s) in my art journal, I decided to do a transparency overlay. Fun! I created the overlay with lots of fun brushes. For the physical part of the page I printed out a card from Tangie's Cirque Joyeux kit and went nuts with the paint, glaze, and shimmer spray. Paper is Basic Grey, sticker by K&Co., pendent by Blue Moon.

One Little Word: Survive
So the journey begins. I've joined Studio Tangie's Art Journal Caravan. I've got great hopes that this journey will help me work through the burdens I continue to face. I've chosen my one word for 2010, Survive. I will survive, and in doing so, I will empower myself to do anything I set my mind to. I look forward to seeing how I evolve as an artist and a person.

reflection 2009
{title} reflection 2009. {credits} Reflection and Andromeda by Sarah Barber Design | dotted border by Gina Marie Huff
In 2009, my life completely changed, turned upside down, and was never to be the same again. I discovered my passion and took the first steps to following my dream, enrolling in school earning my associates in Graphic Design. This was just the beginning.
In the summer of 2009, I fell in love. This was the beginning of the end, so to speak, of my life as I knew it. Tom and I took those first hesitant steps toward something more than friendship, and didn't look back. This decision changed everything. It was a domino effect. My personal life went haywire as my ex-boyfriend began to make my life hell. My daughter's sitter quit, causing me to lose my job. I worked at Michaels for 7 years, and I didn't get so much as a fond farewell. The final incident was when my boyfriend was hauled off to jail.
You would think all of these happenings would be bad. Well they were, but they made me stronger. They made Tom and I closer than ever. We got through all the trials put before us, and are still working through them. But we're doing it. What we have is that rare love that you know, this is the person I need to be with for the rest of my life.
As I sit here, in my new home, counting down the days when my Baby will be back home, I am grateful for all that's happened to me. I did it. I made it through. It's not over yet, but I know that because I made it through this far, I can do anything, no matter how difficult. I will survive. As scary as change is, it's a good thing. You can't stay in limbo forever. I'm glad I'm finally moving forward. I look forward to 2010 and all it will bring, including the pain with the good.
lyrics from love.
As some of you may know, my fiance is in prison right now. As I count down the days till we can be together again, I thought I'd create an album of the beautiful songs he's been writing for me. I've finished the cover and one of the songs so far. I'd thought I'd share this very personal aspect of my life.
